FAQs

Can I order a sample?

Sure! You can order up to 8 swatches on this page.

How do I care for my fabric?

New fibres are likely to shrink so we advise you to pre-wash your fabrics before you cut and sew them. We suggest that (unless otherwise stated on the description) you wash your fabric at a cool temperature on a gentle setting with a mild detergent to preserve the shape and colour. We advise against tumble drying your fabric, especially after it has been made into clothing, as this can encourage further shrinkage. Some of our fabric selvedges show that it can be tumble dried, but please consider that the thread, zips and other notions used to make your garment may not withstand the temperature of a drier. Some sewists like to tumble their fabrics at the pre-washing stage to ensure that all shrinkage has happened before it’s sewn into a garment- please proceed with caution!

These instructions are intended as a guide only. We strongly recommend test washing a small sample of your fabric before prewashing the full piece.

What payment system do you use?

We use Paypal to securely process your payments. Thimble and Notch does not see or store any of your payment information. You can read more about PayPal’s security here.

What number do I put in the quantity box?

We sell our fabrics by the half metre so if you would like half a metre, enter 1 in the quantity box.

For 1m enter 2 in the box.

For 1.5m enter 3 in the box

For 2m enter 4 in the box, and so on. If you have any questions about this please contact us.

Do you have a minimum order quantity?

We sell in half metre increments so our minimum order is 0.5m. However, on request, you can order a large sample (0.25m x fabric width)  if the sample from our swatch service isn’t big enough for you to see pattern repeat etc. Please contact us to arrange this.

Can you source a fabric for me?

We’re always happy to hear feedback about our range. If you can’t find what you’re looking for please contact us and we may be able to stock it for you.

Can I visit Thimble and Notch?
